The Holiday season is upon us. One of the most popular forms of home accessories is holiday decorations. Many of us adorn our front porches with carved pumpkins for Halloween, or our living room with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. In this article, I would like to discuss the one thing that most of us use: lights.

Specialty lighting is one of the most popular forms of home decoration during the holidays. Whether it is lighting up your whole home for Christmas, or placing some glowing Halloween decorations on your front law, there are very few home accessories that do a better job of creating a major effect on the appearance of your property.

There are, however, some draw-backs to holiday lighting. Nobody really enjoys having extension chords strung all over their property or trying to figure out which bulb needs to be replaced in order to get the light string to work. Then comes the electricity bill! Solar holiday lights are a great alternative and come in more styles than you would think.

In just the last few years, solar lighting companies have come out with lots of new styles and applications. This is due to the fact that solar technology has developed so much recently. There are now many different types of solar Christmas and Halloween lights. Here are some that you can add to your list of holiday home accessories.

Some examples of Christmas lights are:

  • Solar Net Lights – These are basically a “net” of LED lights that you use to wrap a shrub. They light up at night and a sensor turns them of when the sun rises. They stay lit for about 8 hours and require 1 AAA battery that is sold separately.

  • Solar Christmas Lights (string lights) – These come in a string of (usually) 50 lights. They are perfect for using just about anywhere you need to string lights, like: hand railings, trees, fence posts, etc. They also have a daylight sensor that turns them on and off at the appropriate times.

  • Multicolor Solar LED Christmas Lights – These are exactly like the Solar string lights, except that they are multicolored. They also have 50 LED bulbs and daylight sensors.

  • Solar Blue Snow Flake Lights – I personally have these and I love them. They are really bright and very pretty. There were a couple of bad reviews on Amazon from people having a problem with the lights shorting out after a while, but I have had no problems with mine. They are only $8 for a string of 20, and the seller has great feedback, so for me, it was worth trying.

Here are some examples of some solar Halloween lights:

  • Solar Halloween Lighted Carved Pumpkin Jack-o-lantern Decoration – This is a solar power smiling Jack-o-lantern decoration for a front lawn or porch. It is about 8″ in diameter and has a daylight sensor that lights it up at night and turns it off during the day.

  • Halloween Sound Activated GO BACK or BOO Rocks – These look like plain old 9.5″ by 6″ by 4″ rocks during the day, but at night they light up with a glowing message that says “Boo” or “Go Back”. These solar powered rocks also come with a day/night sensor.

  • Solar Powered Halloween Skull Decoration – This is a “skull” version of the jack-o-lantern decoration. It’s about 10″ in diameter.

Every one of these holiday decorations comes with the benefits of being solar powered. They all run for about 8 hours on a charge. No jumbles of wires to worry about, or burned out bulbs. No manually turning them on and off or plugging them into timers (the daylight sensors turn them on and off when needed). Best of all, no more huge electric bills! That is about as hassle free as you can get!
