If you are looking to decorate (or redecorate) your child’s playroom, there are countless ideas that you can work with so long as you have the right accessories. Note that it is possible to have a playroom that is both fun and functional. You just have to know what accessories to use and how to arrange them so that you are able to maximize the space that you have efficiently and effectively.
Creating a playroom is also a great way to bond with your child and teach him or her the importance of organization, time management, and keeping one’s surroundings tidy and spotless. If your child is of the right age, you can even include him or her in the fun and get them involved in picking out colours, styles and sizes of the accessories that you will be picking up. That way, your child will have a sense of ownership and responsibility towards his or her things.
Teach your child the importance of reading from a very young age and equip his or her playroom with a wall mounted book rack. Pick up books that are suitable for your child’s age and that will keep him or her engaged. A wall mounted book rack is a great idea as it saves space and as opposed to a book shelf, there is a lesser chance of it falling on your child and hurting him or her. Don’t forget to choose book ends that will be sure to catch your child’s eye and motivate him or her to turn some pages.
When choosing colour schemes for the playroom or colours for the accessories, pick a colour that is gender neutral unless you are absolutely sure that you will not be having any more children. The same applies if your children are of different genders and are going to be sharing the room. This will also help avoid any arguments that may arise. Equipping the room with a built-in cubbie is recommended as this not only provides the playroom with a storage area for the toys, games, stuffed animals and what not, it can also serve as a tool to teach your child how to keep his or her things neat and organized.
Step-up stools will also come in handy in your child’s playroom. This accessory will teach your child self-dependence and give him or her a sense of accomplishment when he or she reaches out for something and is able to reach it. Pick out a stool that complements the style and decor of the playroom. Putting up a growth chart in the playroom is one fun way to bond with your child and keep track of his or her growth level. This will be fun to look back on as the years go by and your child finally outgrows the chart.
Depending on your child’s age, you may want to pick up switch and outlet covers for the playroom. When setting up the room with accessories and toys, the first thing to keep in mind is ‘safety first’. Keep that in mind as you canvas for the aforementioned. Clocks, chalkboards and corkboards are also some very useful accessories that you can include in your child’s playroom. Teach your child how to tell time with a cute clock hanging on the wall. Chalkboards and corkboards are a fantastic way to get your child writing and drawing from a tender age. This is sure to give him or her an edge in school!
All in all, don’t be afraid to get creative and have fun with accessorizing your child’s playroom. Just make sure to invest in products that are made of materials that are safe for your child.
